Orangutan, Why do they need our help?
- The orangutans’ forest home in Borneo is being destroyed to make way for palm oil production.
- Homeless apes migrate in search of food and are killed by plantation workers, farmers and villagers.
- Their young, frequently maimed in the attacks, are sold into the cruelty of the illegal pet trade.
But there is hope, WSPA supports the Nyaru Menteng sanctuary in Borneo, a safe haven for these defenceless creatures. At Nyaru Menteng rescued orangutans are taught the independence they need to return to the rainforests where they belong.
